Tourism Tax
Why is a tourism tax being imposed?
In light of the current law governing the tourism sector and the program adopted by the current government, the purpose of the tourism tax is to promote the development of domestic tourism by improving the services available to tourists visiting São Tomé and Príncipe.
How much is the tax?
The tourism tax is 25 euros per person in São Tomé.
On Príncipe Island, it is 10 euros per person.
Who pays?
The tax is paid by tourists aged 12 and older who reside outside the country, as well as non-resident day-trippers.
Who is exempt?
Children under 12 years of age and visitors who are São Toméan nationals or hold a residence permit.
Where must it be paid?
It must be paid upon entry into the country at São Tomé and Príncipe International Airport and at Príncipe Island Airport.
How will the revenue be used?
Revenue from the tourism tax will be used to improve tourism infrastructure and to develop and promote domestic tourism, in accordance with current legislation.
