The São Tomé and Príncipe archipelago can be visited any month of the year. Average annual temperatures range from 22ºC to 30ºC. The rainy season (February through May and October through December) is when temperatures are highest, with averages around 30ºC. During this time, it rains every day, but only briefly.
Equator
São Tomé and Príncipe, the country where the nearly impossible becomes possible, where you can find yourself in two hemispheres at the same time; the Equator, the imaginary line that becomes real in São Tomé and Príncipe. The equator is the imaginary line that separates the Northern Hemisphere from the Southern Hemisphere and runs through the center of the Earth at a latitude of exactly zero degrees. In Africa, the equator stretches 4,020 kilometers and crosses seven countries in West, Central, and East Africa, and São Tomé and Príncipe is no exception to the rule; the monument is located on Ilhéu das Rolas, a tourist island in the archipelago south of São Tomé, accessible only by boat from Porto Alegre. The monument marking the position of the equator on Ilhéu das Rolas was built by the navigator Gago Coutinho, who led the geodetic mission in São Tomé between 1915 and 1918, during which time he established markers to set up a geodetic network on the island, after which he conducted triangulation observations, precision measurements of two baselines, and numerous astronomical observations.
